I have a question for members here, With regarding factory fresh built 787's I noticed UA LN 1132 delivered after only three flights and a short time after it left FAL.
What is roughly the turn around time with 787's that were stored for a long time and need FAA approval once all work is completed and how many test flights before a previously stored aircraft can be delivered.
Does it get stripped down to bare metal fixed and re assembled ?

That's correct, freshly rolled out frames are already up to the latest production standard and implemented fixes according to AD in the FAL, so a standard 1-2 B flights and 1-2 C flights and they are ready to go. Rework frames can take anywhere between 4-8 months for rework, then it requires a full FCF, a couple B flights and a couple C flights. The most recent deliveries to LH did at least 5 flights post rework each. And yes the aircraft frame needs to be tore apart during rework, front/aft bulkheads removed and then re-assembled. Thus the rework costs significantly more than what boeing publicly advertised. There's a FAL line at PAE specifically for rework.

Thanks for the detailed information ca350, Just wondering why LN 1117 TC-LLS was sent to CHS instead of PAE from VCV ? Is rework also done at CHS ?

Just wondering why LN 1117 TC-LLS was sent to CHS instead of PAE from VCV ? Is rework also done at CHS ? Yes rework is being carried out at both sites. However, BSC does not have the capacity (more importantly, expertise) to carry out the rework for everything, that's why you see some of the SC frames like BA -10, TK -9, Air Premia -9 were ferried to PAE for rework. The recent United -10 deliveries via PAE were just a result of Boeing splitting customer flights/deliveries work.

United Airlines orders 100 B787s plus 100 options
Aviation week - "United Airlines has opted to order Boeing 787s to support a significant portion of its widebody replacement program, but the airline’s long-standing order for Airbus A350s remains intact—for now. The Chicago-based operator has ordered 100 787s and has options for 100 more. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2024 and continue through 2032. United said it has the flexibility to choose among the 787-8, 787-9 and 787-10 variants."
