That will probably be dependent on any near term sales campaigns. I.e. if China orders a huge number of A330, the cuts will be a lot smaller than if they would have to mainly rely on the current backlog

Hadn't they planned to boost production in order to cover hoped for chinese orders?

Hadn't they planned to boost production in order to cover hoped for chinese orders? No, they had hoped to book these Chinese orders in time to avoid cutting the 2015 production rate (9 per month). Airbus has to bridge the gap between 2015 and 2018 (A330neo production ramp up).

The upcoming A330neo will not help to keep up the A330ceo rate high.

The upcoming A330neo will not help to keep up the A330ceo rate high. You're right, the gap still exists, and it is a major problem for Airbus.

The solution might be Regional and MRTT.

I don't believe 18-inches is a realistic number for a nine-abreast A330. Carving out and a few other tricks should not be enough.
More importantly, the race to the bottom goes on, even for long range. 10-abreast 777s will soon be caracterised as a generous configuration.

From where are they going to get the additional 12+ inches to make it possible? How much can you get out of the sidewalls?

I.e. if China orders a huge number of A330, the cuts will be a lot smaller than if they would have to mainly rely on the current backlog As shown in the Airbus investor briefing media.freecaster.com/doc/cassidian/gif_2014_1.pdfAbout page 9, the graph shows A330 production down at about 5/month without extra sales. But they are trying to bridge the gap. They seem to think with the neo they will get back to 10+ Geoff
