901 suffered a wiped #3 and #4 bearing on the #2 engine with significant metal shavings contained in the engine oil and had damage to the prop fan. So the engine was replaced and repairs done to the right engine pylon. The aircraft was out of service for approximately 2 weeks while replacing the engine since the supply of available engines is extremely limited. Thanks for the info, was this bird strike caused ? Or an engine component failure ? Or an operational issue ?

Thanks nkpilot Sounds like significant damage. I wonder if such failures also happen on other engines, or would this be a GTF design issue? According to Spirits own fleet planner from Oct 2016, they were due to get 5 NEOs in 2016, and none in 2017 ! Then taking them again from 2018 ! ir.spirit.com/fleetplan.cfmThe 5 early ones are the leased ones, then a wait for the directly ordered ones ?

ex-Volaris birds.
Component failure
Similar problem just happened at Volaris and IndiGo. Not isolated to NK.

For Volaris there is only 1 NEO delivered so far and that is MSN 7051 and it flew pretty much everyday from October (the earliest I can see) until Dec 1. Not sure if that has to do with this or not. www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/n528vl

Thank you, nkpilot and rp4242 !
It's deeply concerning that several GTF engines suffered from a component failure and sustained severe dammage leading to engine replacement. This has a potential to cause more delay in the programme. I suppose Spirit must not be the only airline deferring deliveries ...
So far, P&W, Airbus and even their customers have been mum on the issue. I would like to know whether a fix has already been identified. If not, why would replacement engines be immune from the same problems ?

Today Airbus reaches 496 A320 series deliveries, that is the new record for one year, passing 493 deliveries.
