If the above information is true - a big IF in my opinion - then I think this move from Boeing is either a consequence of delays in tanker production (Boeing may need more orders to keep the 767 line running) or an interim solution offered to 767 operators interested in the NMA but unable to wait until 2025.

What are the chances Boeing communicates this news just as Airbus made the first A330neo flight. I don't think leaking such information to Leeham would make much buzz. The general public probably doesn't even know that 767 passenger versions haven't been produced for years.
