The good news is that 14 of the planed 18 refurbishment have been completed, and these birds are going to have another 5-10 years service if not more.

Here is a bad picture of G-BYGC going over my house at approx 9k feet, north of Bristol on Tuesday 24th of May pm heading for Maintenance in Cardiff, it's only 17 years old. G-BYGC is the No. 16 to be refurbished in Cardiff and converted from F14C70W30Y185 to F14C86W30Y145 configuration.
14 already done, G-CIVI already in Cardiff since 15 May, make it No. 15. G-CIVG and G-BYGB are the two remaining planes to get the new configuration. These 18 birds were built from 1995 to 1999, already been refurbished before so have relatively lower hours.
I think the five early birds, G-BNLJ/BNLK/BNLN/BNLO/BNLP all delivered in 1990 will retire when more A380 (could be some second hand planes) join the fleet.
The rest of the BA 747 fleet, 16 planes - 7 built in 1992-1994 and 9 were in 1997-1998 would still play key parts for BA in the next few years, especially the later ones.
On a separate note: one of my staff complained heavily about how old the decoration of BA 777-200s, especially the IFE system is so out of date with small screen. They are a younger fleet (average 16.6 years old) comparing to 747s (20.2 years old), but it seems BA 747s are in much better conditions, which must be very pleasing to hear for audience of this forum.

G-CIVD is going through routine maintenance (C check I believe) in Cardiff, will return to LHR in a week's time.
