Speaking to Al Ahram last week, Safwat Mosallam said the aircraft would be withdrawn with the arrival of newer machines. The overall aim, he said, is to lower the average age of EgyptAir's fleet from the current 9.1 years, to no more than 4. A review of the carrier's fleet makeup shows the oldest aircraft in Egyptair's fleet centre on its A320-200s, A321-200s, A330-200s, B737-800s, and lone remaining B777-200(ER). EgyptAir Express (MSE, Cairo Int'l) is also due to see its fleet of twelve EMB-170s (averaging 9 years) replaced. "There is an exercise to upgrade the fleet of 12 Embraers, which seat up to 70 passengers," he said. "They will be replaced with more modern aircraft able to accommodate 100 passengers during the next month. Following that, we will be considering putting the aircraft up for sale or lease." It is recalled that the state-owned carrier issued a Request For Proposals (RFP) for the lease of forty-five aircraft in January this year. The aircraft being sought included A319neos, A330-800neos, A320neos, A330-900neos, B737 MAX 7s and MAX 8s, B787-8s and -9s, CS300s, and EMB-195-E2s to be delivered between 2018 and 2021. "As soon as the new aircraft arrive, the current fleet will be retired immediately, and next year 25 aircraft will be put out of service," he said. "The fleet will consist of small- and medium-sized aircraft of 140 passengers and widebody models with 260 passengers." It is recalled that as a result of Egypt's floatation of the Pound, EgyptAir has had to revise its fleet expansion figures. According to Mosallam, in the pre-floatation days, EgyptAir looked to grow its fleet to 150 aircraft by 2025. However, that has now been revised down to 89 by 2022 growing to 105 by 2025 "in line with the current conditions of the company."

Egyptair interested in both a330 neo versions Well, they appear to be pretty much interested in all new types of aircraft, except VLAs.

Thanks for spotting this. Nothing booked yet by Airbus , as at end July, but you are right the ALC document shows 27 A330-900s on order. Geoff

I was told that those two frames are a sale and leaseback agreement with TAP, like they did with BOC, but I'm still waiting for Airbus to update the orderbook.
