MSN5 is the production standard test aircraft and will be used to obtain type certification. Though the first frames of any type are different from production aircraft, they can be used to a certain extent for certification purposes. Regulators however demand part of the flight tests to be performed on production standard aircraft. I hope someone else can bring some details and references to the discussion.

That's true, I recall Boeing using 2 or 3 "real" 787-8 production frames for some certification flights. Perhaps MSN6 will do similar flights.

That's why MSN1 is currently undergoing a major software and hardware upgrade (4 weeks already) to get WiBi "up to certification standard" I guess.... The same reason I expect GiGi to be next in line for such an upgrade when WiBi is back in action.

Does anyone know if Airbus have recorded any instances of lightning strikes on the A350s in test?

Does anyone know if Airbus have recorded any instances of lightning strikes on the A350s in test? I don't know about natural lightning strikes, but at least one lightning test has been performed on the ground early in the test program.

I somehow resent the article's characterization of Airbus as a "French aviation manufacturer"...

I somehow resent the article's characterization of Airbus as a "French aviation manufacturer"... Don't expect careful wording from the media ... Just disregard !
