Interesting! However, I fear if this in deed turns out to be a part of MH370, it won't help the search much more than last year's debris part found on Reunion.
The only way in that it would help is that it ensures media coverage once more, thereby raising awareness in the public opinion, which is essential to keep the funds flowing that are necessary for the systematic (and expensive) search.
Still hoping for the best.

"The best" would be that the search efforts finally pay off, the wreckage is being recovered, and the families and friends of the victims might find some closure.

Well, despite the lack of conclusion on a root cause for the aircraft's diversion from its planned path, I think the report is reasonable and that there are a lot of lessons to be learned from it regarding air traffic control management and improved aircraft tracking. Hopefully, one day, someone adventurous will try and find the wreck in their own time. Maybe James Cameron can do it, and then follow it up with a movie! |

So the Captain manually put in strange southerly waypoints in his home use PC 777-flight simulator before and we still have no idea what has happened? Let me guess.

No I won't. But in fact it is a little frustrating to see all this investigation come to an end like this. It feels like they can't speak out certain things. The chief of the civil aviation authority of Malaysia even stepped down over this today.
