Seems like Astana is dreaming, and don't get it why they should be the best source for this information

Nobody knows whether they are talking about a narrowbody, or a small widebody, or studying both options ...

That's probably true of 50%+ of articles published, they have to write something to fill the pages up (online or printed)

Boeing says the ripening market for a new middle-of-the-market (MOM) aircraft seating between 220 and 280 passengers could see sales “in the thousands.” So, this is pretty much 787-8 and 787-9 territory except that it would have less range. Might end up cannibalising 787-8/9 sales.

Might end up cannibalising 787-8/9 sales. As the article says, it's above the B737-900 and below the B787-9, it does have a cross over with the B787-8 though. But there are not that many B787-8s left to build. The 9s and 10s are the majority of Boeings o/s order book. A "new" plane should be cheaper to produce because it would have a shorter range and not need to use as much of the expensive composite parts to save weight.
