I too went through a bit of a learning curve when I switched from IE to Chrome a long time ago (adblock was the biggest reason behind it). It was all good until Chrome 33 update which took away some of the configuration options I used. Had enough of it and moved to Firefox - very cool, just as good but better customisation options. I recommend you give it a try.

Fabien try Fairfox - it is more stable - very configurable and you will find less webs not working properly than with IE. Chrome is a bit peculiar - you have to get used to it. I do agree with Baroque that some upgrades made harm. Also the way it works with pdf is horrible - still I do consider it much better that IE.

It worked ok before, right? So something must have gone wrong. Have you installed any other program lately? Maybe you've got a virus? So I would start with anti-virus scan. Firefox is a great browser and I recommend it, but as you prefer IE we must debug it PS. Try running IE in no adds-on mode - it may be caused by faulty extension (toolbar etc.)

Yes I tried IE with no adds-on in fact... I think what could have worsened it (IE) is a movie download, though it had happened in the past and I just uninstalled the last windows updates, to reinstall them later on and it worked well (while keeping the movies I had downloaded.....)... I proceeded the same this time but still, hasn't reworked well yet.....
Then I tried to look online how to uninstall IE and reinstall it but nothing what I've found applies to what is on my laptop....... I think I'll try firefox to see how it looks like.....
I have on the laptop Avast, I've had it for years and it always worked well, though I think I saw not too good comments about it..... Avast hasn't found anything on the laptop here, though......

Or try malwarebytes.org - free just run it and you will see. It is quite effective - how ever I do not believe it is some malware or virus. I do believe it is influence of some of MS actualization. The problem with IE is it is completely integrated into the windows so its removal is almost impossible.
Concerning AVAST - I think it is OK - it is one of the less intrusive antivirus sw, consuming relatively small amount of resources, so in my book good choice.
