An interesting piece of information from the above story : "Airbus engineers in AWIC (Airbus Wing Integration Center ) are experimenting folding wing tips that could be extended before the flight and folded back on the ground".

I know it is a mock CGI rendering of a wing shown above, but those slots on the winglet are quite intriguing. Laminar flow control system?

It is very interesting indeed, as it gives us some insight into Airbus' A320 evolution plans. We must not, however, be confused : Airbus hasn't decided to build the new A320 wing described in the article, which is still a research project that seems to have been launched at least 18 months ago. - "Anthony Meisner is one of a team designing the 'wing of the future' for Airbus planes, with the aid of a 3D software package". - "Meisner, who has worked on the project for 18 months, said ..." So, Airbus actually hasn't shelved its plans to improve the A320 family ...

I wonder if this was a big 'oops' moment where he accidentally revealed a bit more than he should have. Very interesting development for sure. Or maybe even a bit of intended misdirection at its competitors to keep them guessing about what Airbus is actually working on.
