Many airlines have both types on order, I do not see it as 'bad news'.

Dominic Gates from The Seattle Times has done a well balanced report .... So both P&W and Airbus will have to continue their fight with ..... Mr. AAB also seems to have some Delorians in his fleet

The MAX order is only a letter of intent, so it's far from being a firm order. This is what Scott Hamilton of Leeham News and Comment had to say (from the Seattle Times article in the previous posts)

What makes the MAX part of the deal a bit shaky is not only that it's a LOI, it is also both partners' comments or lack thereof. While Boeing's website glorifies the QR deal, it only mentions the MAX in very small letters. www.boeing.com/ Furthermore, the press release only includes a few cautious words about the MAX. www.boeing.com/commercial/customers/qatar-airways/qatar-airways-order.page"With the commitment for the 737 MAX 8, it would be the first Boeing single-aisle airplane model to join Qatar Airways’ fleet in more than 15 years". You would have expected more for the introduction of a new type into the fleet of a major airline. On the other hand, though QR made it clear that their -neo order is not cancelled, it did not provide any reason for ordering the MAX. I would not go so far as entirely discounting the project, but I understand Leeham's purported bold comments.

There is more.....
3 pcs of those "horrible" canceled planes are happily and reliably serving FINE - in the colors of someone else - i.e. there is sufficient proof that the problem is not in the plane itself but in the customer ! No doubt about that.
Also at looking onto the delivery process of QR A350s and anybody else we can observe some differences.
Once more is it the plane or the customer ?
