It means up-sizing the value of the order book (A321 is bigger/more expensive than A320neo). Then the word 'upsize' has been carefully chosen to avoid calling the decision what it is - a conversion, plus the reactivation of four canceled orders. Press release also states that it replaces the previous order. ... Which does not fully clarify which order is being replaced - the A321neo order (16 frames) or both that order and the A320neo order (altogether, 46 frames). I agree that most probably Airbus will only book four new orders, but I wanted to point out that another reading is possible.

To extend this post, the following order was placed in 2011: aviationweek.com/commercial-aviation/qatar-slams-airbusthen-orders-billions-aircraftLater on, those 6 A319neos were converted to 4 additional A320neos and 2 additional A321neos. This new deal for 50 CFM powered A321neos completely replaces the original order.

Well, I'll indulge in pointing out that on May 9th I asked in the 'A321LR' thread whether we had any official information about QR's engine choice, since I had seen only press speculation, and I was intrigued. I also remembered that AAB had said he would wait for engine maturity before introducing the aircraft. a380.boards.net/thread/1033/a321lr?page=29&scrollTo=111816Fabien replied that the choice of CFM LEAP engines had been announced during Macron's latest visit to the UAE. Was the deal finalised ? I am still not sure, as I didn't see any announcement from the airline or from an engine manufacturer ...

But why wouldn't it have been finalised, and/or why would Qatar come back to the P&W?............

Philidor - it seems my guess had some merit But with Al - we will not be sure until the plane has left AB premises on delivery
