If the aircraft are built for a lessor, finding a substitute operator should not be too difficult. stealthmanbob makes a valid point. But if no airline specific cabin furnishing has been installed, I'd imagine the lessor could just take delivery of the empty shell and store it somewhere even though no customer steps up immediately. Once the new customer is found, it is easy to configure the cabin for them without needing to do the difficult task of stripping away the old cabin.

Who would want them at 5 -7 months notice ? An existing operator, not many of those, or a new operator ? It takes a lot of planning and training to take on a new aircraft type ? You are right, delivery would likely be delayed.

Airbus would not rush the lessor into taking delivery before the operator has been identified. Construction would be stopped until all issues have been resolved.

Airbus would not rush the lessor into taking delivery before the operator has been identified. Construction would be stopped until all issues have been resolved. I made the point under the consideration that Airbus may be unwilling to keep significant inventory on its books unless it can get the customer (in this case, the lessor) to come to an agreement to cover the costs of doing so. The issue between the airline and the lessor should not lead to Airbus booking unnecessary inventory charges. But of course, the lessor has to decide if it is cheaper to pay Airbus the compensation or just take delivery of the frame and take the idle charges till the new airline is found. PS: Congrats on your 3800th post btw. And this is my 3000th!

SriLankan (UL) is leasing MSN 52,55,60 from Aercap. In my opinion UL will be taking delivery of those three A350 on leaae as normal by 2017. Because leases going to be expired for three A332 in the current fleet in 2017. They need replacement aircraft for those three A332s. A350 is a best equipment for CMB-NRT, CMB-LHR, CMB-FRA.

UL's difficult financial situation makes me fear a Skymark-like scenario. I hope I am wrong, I would like to see UL's A350s fly away proudly ! Perhaps Airbus can finance some of the aircraft if the company sets up a credible turnaround plan ... There is a significant difference: SriLankan is owned by the government, and it is not unlikely that the Sri Lanka government may bail them out. Deliveres might be delayed still, but I doubt they will fold. And for Airbus is is rather easy to place these A350s with someone else, compared to the A380

Congrats on your 3800th post btw. And this is my 3000th! Thank you for noticing my (small) personal forum milestone (I hadn't !) and for your congrats. Congrats to you as well for your 3000 posts, a much more telling milestone ! There is something strange about it : for some reason, we both tend to reach forum milestones at about the same time ! Unfortunately, we are too far away from each other to celebrate with a drink in hand !
