We must be careful about such assertions. The SriLankan government obviously intends to smear its predecessor ...

That's a huge amount of money, and much more than the $15 million quoted above.

At that price, I wonder whether cancellation was the wiser choice. The penalty is probably backed by deposits already paid to Aercap by Sri-lankan. I hope they still have some hope of reducing the bill through negociation.
On the other hand, Aercap cannot have it both ways : they must take delivery of all the frames as contractually agreed with Airbus.

The penalty is probably backed by deposits already paid to Aercap by Sri-lankan. Consider it was a leasing agreement, the prepayment should have been rather limited?

So the actual fee is $17.5m + $98m = $115.5m ?

In both articles i saw errors about ordered numbers of a350-900 aircraft. Srilankan Airlines ordered directly from Airbus 4 a359 with deliveries from 2019 to 2020. Airline has leasing agreement with Aercap (ILFC) to lease 3 (not 4) a359 with deliveries in 2016. In total they ordered 7 A350-900, not 8 as draw in both articles.

On financial matters, I would go by Reuters' reporting. They are less likely to be confused by numbers.
