It was always going to be tough for a small airline to compete against the ME3 giants on long hauls. But UL was kept profitable under EK's control by taking advantage of synergies. It all went downhill after EK sold its stake ( see here). With the recent entry into the One World alliance, UL has the opportunity to approach QR for some deeper partnership.

I still do not believe they could operate profitably the A350s - i.e. to fill them up. The prices of ME3 + TK + charter operators would kill them.

That's an entirely new hypothesis for the ex-SriLankan frames ... I wonder to what extent we should believe this article, though. AirAsia so far seemed to prefer A330neo to A350 ...

There is the possibility that not all SriLankan A350 have found a home with Sechuan. There were two batches, some that SriLankan was supposed to buy and some that AerCap is buying and was to lease to SriLankan.

Any idea when does these msn would come for production? We all are aware that Aercap is going to lease the ex-UL A350s (msn 52, 55, 60) to Sichuan Airlines. Any idea what's going to happen to Msn 171 which was allocated before for UL?
