Pretty sure those slots will be allocated to existing customers, 2017 is just too soon for a new customer. It takes years to prepare for the arrival of a new jet.

flightglobal on AA deferrals www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/analysis-american-aims-to-cut-delivery-bubble-with-427765/My guess on this is that they will replace their aging 772 fleet slowly by 359 and their aging 763 fleet is being replaced as it goes by the 787s both with small up-sizing. The oldest 772 are now 17,6 years so their replace will be on time in 3-5 years - and they have 47 of those ! To sum it up their 787 + 350 orders are not enough as they are ! We will see more to come - or they will appear as some lessors orders. |

I thought they will fly their wide bodies 10 more years then sell to Delta..

I thought they will fly their wide bodies 10 more years then sell to Delta.. AA has much younger fleet than DELTA - it is only 10,9 years. True is they have some close to 30 years old 757/767/MD8x but they get rid of those quite rapidly as A321/B788/A319/B738 are arriving. I do not believe that DELTA is ready to take those  . Look how DELTA is now buying new A330/A321/B739 something seen rarely in last years - it looks like they are - in part - changing their fleet strategy  - Still the average age is respectable 17 years. Their customers are at least sure the planes have already learned how to fly  - they do have a lot of experience  |

Airbus A350-900 will make a good fit replaceing Boeing B777-200.
