AA's press release. news.aa.com/press-releases/press-release-details/2018/American-Airlines-Expands-Boeing-787-Fleet/default.aspxI find it particularly interesting that a large part of the 787 order (22 788s, to be delivered from 2020) is said to be for 767 replacement. This solves AA's most urgent replacement problem, but it also seems to reduce the need to launch the 797, which would be first and foremost a 767 successor. Now that Boeing has this order, does it need a new aircraft in this market segment ? Not necessarily ... Another interesting point is that Boeing signals that it is still actively selling the 788, in spite of lower margins than its siblings (789, 787-10). Did AA get somes promises of an improved version ?

Did AA get somes promises of an improved version ? Two points: -from the release: ..... Notably, the 787 earns American’s highest overall customer satisfaction scores among widebodies, as well as in the areas of seat comfort - This is a joke - they do have seating 3-3-3 i.e. seats in Y 16,2 - 17,2 wide. It does not bring customer satisfaction - it brings the "beancounters" at AA satisfaction. My personal observation from two 787 flights - the least comfortable seating I have ever met in any plane during my life, including IL18 and IL62 and AN24 etc...... -interestingly they removed in 2017 8x763, in 2016 11x763, in 2015 7x763 i.e.26 pieces while they did received only 20x788. So some were replaced by new 788 and on some routes (coast-coast) etc. obviously by A321.
