How do these deferments work please? Do Airbus treat them as ways of bringing forward deliveries (by 2) or do they look for a new customer for early slots? With the latter, if the 2020 deferment date of these 350s is still within the sales slots already granted, wouldn't their later delivery not then push back others' planned delivery dates by 2? Does this then have to be agreed with those airlines affected?
Just curious. It's a huge juggling act in any event!

As far as best-selling aircraft types are concerned, airframers are constantly overbooked. In such a situation, deferments can be a relief, not a problem !

So they won't try to fill them?

So they won't try to fill them? I bet they are still overbooked. Airframers know from past experience that some deliveries are going to be deferred, and they sell more slots than they have. Should this not happen, they would offer some incentives to push a few deliveries to the right. Airframers are experts at this game ...

In some ways it's the same as how airlines work themselves, I was booked on a weekend away to Dublin a few years ago with Aer Lingus. Flew out fine, but at Dublin for the return flight On a Sunday night I was told there were no seats left on my flight home ! After a bit of a discussion I found out they always overbooked the Sunday night flights back to LHR by around 5-10% because they got so many no shows from people going to Dublin for a boozy weekend and not turning up for their return flight. The lady said 9 times out of 10 this worked fine but not on my day when too many had turned up ! Anyway I had to wait 2 hours for the next flight back to LHR. But as it was a scheduled flight it cost them a lot ! I got free drinks in the bar until my new flight and I made the most of it ! I also got a free meal but I gave this away to a couple delayed with Ryan Air so I could concentrate on inflicting as much financial pain on Aer Lingus as possible ! When I got back to LHR it cost them much more as they had to give me a taxi back to Bristol as my 10 other traveling companions minibus was not going to wait for me I don't mind if this gets moved to the Amusement or Lounge Bar thread, but I have just re lived a great night out curtesy of Aer Lingus

After that agreement Airbus will have 13 early slots for sale to other customers: 2017 4x 2018 8x 2019 1x In my opinion soon there will be announced order for these slots from new or current customer of a350. 5 MSN (108,131, 156, 168 and 180) earlier with deliveries in 2017 and 2018 for AA will be allocated to other airline.
