He seems to be struggling with the concept of average and how to calculate it

Wow, more of the usual bullshit from Abublablafia. The advantage of a stop doesn't get eroded. It would take one hell of an airplane to be able to do LHR-PER with a usable payload in the first place, not to mention doing it better than an A380 stopping in DXB. It's true that the next generation of Large Twins puts the A380 under pressure. In other news, bears have been found to s*** in the woods.First of all, EK doesn't pay 330 million per A380. Secondly, I'm in no way an expert on economics and from what I hear depreciation is primarily a paper exercise for bookkeeping, but it's very rarely straight-lined. Real-world resale value certainly isn't. So that's 2 shady tricks to blow up that figure of 3.5 billion dollars. Even by Abublablafia's standards, that's pretty weak.

Aboulafia doesn't deserve a detailed discussion of his assertions. His only merit is consistency : he has been saying the same for years.

Mr. Leeham, a north american aviation consultant and analyst, continues to doubt the Airbus 20 yr VLA forecast; and the secondary market for used A380's down the pike - posted on Nov. 18. www.leehamnews.wordpress.comHe is a lot more objective and less inflammatory that Aboulafia though.

Which is OK. Being in doubt is a fair position, unlike Aboulafia much more biased and tabloid view on things

Aboulafia has always denigrated, reviled, and mocked the A380; and the business case for the A380 - for as long as I can remember. If and when they book 70 aircraft this year - (Doric 20 + 50 for Emirates) I hope he will be crying in his beer. He has too big of an ego to say that he was wrong, in my opinion. Go Leahy - finalize that Doric order!!!

I do not see him as being motivated by pride. I believe he is a paid "consultant" writing whatever is required by those who hire his pen.
