The thing I can't get is WHY did VS rushed to order their A380... where I work If I had purchased something that was not of reasonably immediate usage among the 'supply chain' I'd have been already fired. Of course, it's a delicate matter, I feel sorry for them but hey, If you were not so (economically) sure about your long term investment (this six superjumbos) keep quiet, look at the market, and take your decision... I love Virgin brand, but as a fan I'm really disappointed with these deferrings. That said, today in Italy is bank holiday, I'm going back to bed. Cheers! AOIspotter A big part of Virgin's problems has been its shareholding airline partners. When Singapore had a 49% stake in Virgin they put pressure on Virgin to defer deliveries partly because of the program delays and also Singapore wanting Virgin's original delivery slots(Working from memory on that point so not sure). Delta, who currently own 49%, like other US carriers aren't keen at all on super jumbos so things look a bit bleak for Virgin buying any. The frustrating point is that the 380 would be perfect for Virgin on its high volume holiday routes to Florida from London and Manchester. It is also a relatively small International carrier which doesn't help when wanting to purchase such an expensive bit of kit. I do so hope Virgin gets it act together but it has struggled quite a bit in recent years and needs to urgently replace its uneconomical A340's.

Would it be too difficult to stop duplicating transatlantic routes with smaller widebodies and somehow arrange planeshare within different airlines. Sorry, I do not understand this. Can you explain this concept better? Well between 08.30 & 09.30 this morning there were 7 arrivals from New York at Heathrow, served by a selection of 76s, 77s and 74s. Those seven arrivals could be reduced to 4 if the A380 was utilised. My proposal would mean airlines like Virgin and BA jointly utilise and share aircraft. I know this would never happen(World peace would be easier), but to me it's a commercial no brainer. It would free slots at Heathrow, make economies for airlines and make the A380 a far more an attractive prospect. Lets be honest, the lady hasn't exactly set the World alight with sales. If it wasn't for Emirates the program would be in big trouble.

One thing that annoys me is airlines often codeshare on routes. Why don't they planeshare? I just don't understand why one of the most common planes serving LHR and the east coast of the US is the dated 767. Am I stupid in not understanding the economies of scale. Would it be too difficult to stop duplicating transatlantic routes with smaller widebodies and somehow arrange planeshare within different airlines. The A380 is the perfect tool for the job, but I guess it would need a new mindset with international airlines.

How weird to operate the A380 on such short leg. I have to disagree. It is great to see the versatility of the A380 showing its face. If a large amount of humans need moving then the A380 is the answer. Long or short haul!

I think you might have overlooked 151's CFF flight in your updates.

I hope that wasn't a dig at my post about the speedy outfitting of 151 and its simpler outfit at XFW. If my post was foolish I apologise but the BA A380 cabin fit is relatively straightforward in comparison to others. The ability to have completely bespoke interiors has complicated outfitting and slowed the production process, as admitted by Airbus. Maybe to you experienced posters that fact is a gimee, but I am new and perhaps naive, but it interests me why nonetheless. Hi trumpton, not at all, just having a 'silly' moment (you will get used to those, just my sense of humour!). If BA have managed to simplify the outfitting due to their layouts etc. well then thats brilliant as I would like to see more of the BA380's in the sky! So I hope I haven't offended and if I did sorry Oh yeah, welcome to the forum! I wasn't offended but had consumed one or two glasses of prosecco so perhaps I wasn't thinking straight when I posted(always a danger to post anything anywhere after a glass or two). Thanks for taking time to reply to my input. It frustrates me how long the build and fit out of the big bird takes but I guess I have no concept of how technically and physically difficult it is to put together such an immense bit of engineering. I just want the beautiful and mighty A380 to rightly take its place as the Queen of the skies as quickly as possible!

I remember that an EK A380 once made its first commercial flight two hours after it was delivered. Could BA pull off the same kind of feat ? I don't remember whether they perform some work on the aircraft (such as seat installation ...) before flying it. They are bring in a new style and range of seating. First Class get folding deck chairs with armrests and bean bag cushions for a footrest, Business Class will get director chairs, Premium will get IKEA self assemble stools and Economy get some newspaper to sit on. Saves time and money in the long run. Oh yes they will also require that you bring your own packed lunch!
