Announcement from Indigo about planned & unplanned flight cancellation. Among it they said: "Pratt and Whitney is working to resolve these design issues on their Worldwide fleet of engines and, we believe, that the final design changes will be implemented over the next twelve to eighteen months. At the same time, Pratt and Whitney is struggling to provide sufficient spare engines to its Worldwide customer base which results in parking some aircraft due to lack of spare engines." www.equitybulls.com/admin/news2006/news_det.asp?id=212376Twelve to eighteen months till final design changes...

We do know that some of the GoAir engines were carried to the manufacturers plant i.e. something more serious was going on - and I am sure it slows all the processes.... Well, obviously these problems cannot be fixed with engines on wing. The powerplants are removed and ferried back to a factory. That's why most 'grounded' planes are actually waiting for their engines. We don't know exactly why it takes so long to fix them there, but we suspect slow production of new parts is a major reason.

Twelve to eighteen months till final design changes... No, twelve to eighteen months until full implementation of the design changes. Slow parts production seems to be holding repairs.

According to Flight Global there is also a new importation / tax scheme that has just been implemented in India, and it is also slowing up The importation on replacement engines and spares. Quote - "However, it reveals that a new tax change in the country is delaying replacement powerplants and has caused some "unplanned short-term flight cancellations". IndiGo adds that it has grounded four A320neos "for as much as three weeks" as their spare engines are awaiting customs clearance. "We are waiting clarification on certain provisions affecting the entire airline industry post the implementation of GST. Our understanding is that the GST was not intended to create an additional fiscal burden on the airline industry. This unpredictable situation did lead to some unplanned short-term flight cancellations... We are engaged in ongoing discussions with the relevant authorities and hope to receive the GST clarification soon." New Delhi implemented a new goods & service tax scheme, effective 1 July. This affects the tax treatment of imported aircraft and engines." Full Article - www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/no-unplanned-flight-cancellations-from-pw1100g-issue-440431/

Than you have without doubt the "Parkinson low" in action.... Just a side comment - nothing to do with the engines

Very important news. If true, this means that the N° 3 bearing fix is working, but engines already used and worn must be revised, which explains why it takes so long to get the aircraft back into the air.
