I think that to have just A380 fleet is NONSENSE. They have most of the routes (by #of routes not passengers) where it is physically impossible to fill it. Just have a look at their routes. There is a LOT of cities they fly to with bellow 1 mil inhabitants and those simply can not deliver 500 people a day. They have a policy to have - if possible - one flight a day.
OK they have a majority of traffic from huge hubs or not so large cities but remote with no other way of transportation - like Australia, but still. Now they have 48 pcs of A380, 53 pcs of up to 300 people planes and 107 773/W !

That's likely. The A380 order is mentioned in the Airbus press release.
EDIT : I was answering Fabien's post on the previous page, linking the A350 cancellation to EK's latest A380 order.

In Airbus' press release, it was said that Airbus and EK have come to an agreement,... Thing is, if EK isn't in need of the A350 anymore and if the A330neo would be too small, this would lead me think that this agreement is related to the latest order of 50 whalejets... Has anyone considered that EK could be moving to a one aircraft fleet! Remember they have not ordered any 777X aircraft yet, just expressed an interest and have built a brand that could support A380's to every Could there be another order announcement at Farnborough for the A380 on the way? I think there won't be an order at Farnborough, but I think a MoU to buy an A380neo with upgraded/new engines by RR is more likely. I think EK won't order more A380ceo, but only A380neo, as long as the A380neo is ready quick enough. The only order that we could see by EK is for an A330neo (or maybe not an A330neo but for the B781, as EK has enough money for investment???) combined with Air Asia and other customers and turning the B777X into firm orders. I think EK won't buy any B748 as it is sinply too much of an old airframe Btw: I might get a Media Pass for Farmborough, so I hope to keep the Forum updated all the time, while not taking photos of anything that flies.

DL, QF, VA, SQ? Who else might we have? I'll add Garuda, Malaysia, Philippines, South African and Iberia. Btw: I might get a Media Pass for Farmborough, so I hope to keep the Forum updated all the time, while not taking photos of anything that flies. Lucky!

I'll add Garuda, Malaysia, Philippines, South African and Iberia. Good candidates. However, Iberia has already secured an undisclosed number of slots. link

Just a remark: when EK starts a new route they operate it with A332, later with 772 and finally with 777 or.... This did happen with PRG, WAW, VCE - those I am sure about - probably much more. If the route does not work out - they close it before 777 comes on. EK has now started opening routes with 777-300ERs. EK is opening OSL and BRU later this year and both will be 777-300ER from the first day

Consider a scenario where cancellation fees did still apply for the A350 order... Once Boeing firmed up the configuration for the 77W successor, Emirates was no longer interested in the A350 order and stated that they were "reviewing their fleet strategy". Could it be that EK were pushing Boeing to account for the A350 cancellation fees in their 777X order pricing and after being reluctant to do so, they have finally bowed to the pressure? It could also explain why they were taking a long to finalise the deal and that Boeing were trying to push the 748i to them, possibly as an alternative to this. Just my two...no wait. Just my 5 cents. Canada no longer uses the penny. Whatever the details of the deal with Boeing for the 777X ( commercial and technical ) it is looking clear that the imminent firming of the 777X order and the size of it are the reason for the A350 cancellation and its timing. EK are now happy that they are getting the deal they wanted from Boeing. Geoff

The 777X order now probably can be firmed whenever EK so decides. I also agree that the 777X timeline must have determined the timing of the A350 cancellation. I would not however call it the reason for the cancellation - I think EK's fleet requirements favouring larger aircraft are the reason for both the A350 and the 777X decisions.

VS perhaps may take some up, especially as it may allow them to more easily cancel their A380 orders.

Is it possible that EK cancelled the order as kind of pressure to gain new landing rights in Europe specially Germany and France?
