1. Thanks Baroque for sharing my exact view ! 2.interesting quote by Clark from the link above “We’ve got to talk to the manufacturers about the numbers we need and the prices that we’re prepared to offer,” he said. “We haven’t decided any of that yet.” i.e. the real selling price is what the manufacturer want to get but what the buyer is ready to offer. As a matter of fact more-less what I have written above.

Also from very hot Lanzarote where it is still to Hot to sleep ! Emirates have pissed AB off big style re the A350 order, so AB should stand firm don't give the weasel Clark any wiggle room ! Full price for our planes please, discount if the order is for 50+ !

Emirates have pissed AB off big style re the A350 order... This was big, but it wasn't the first time they dragged out an order with Airbus and cancelled it completely. Back in 2006 they did the same for a dozen or so A340-600s. Airbus may probably look to get some kind of contract guarantee that covers a substantial portion of the neo development costs and getting EK to sign up for A350s could be a sort of collateral that allows them to lower the asking price for the A380neos. The worst EK could do to hurt their chances of getting the A380neo is to sign up for GE powered 787-10s. Pisses off not just Airbus but also RR who I think have a bigger stake in this fight since they are obviously the best hope for a new engine on the A380.

Well, they did order 50 A380s just half a year earlier (which Airbus would probably value more than 70 A350s). Not discounting the aircraft would just hand the order to Boeing on a silver platter. The worst EK could do to hurt their chances of getting the A380neo is to sign up for GE powered 787-10s. Pisses off not just Airbus but also RR who I think have a bigger stake in this fight since they are obviously the best hope for a new engine on the A380. I believe when EK selected the Trent 900 for their latest A380s they also stated that they would select Rolls Royce engines when they order either the 787 or A350.

Simply EK did grow to such a size they can (almost) dictate their rules ...

They're waiting for at least 20 A350s to enter service on a variety of routes in order to evaluate its performance. To me, this is the most telling point. Block 3 (= the first A350s that should be at 'normal' weight) starts with MSN 21, so EK may be waiting for data on block 3 aircraft operation before making a decision. More broadly, the postponement shows that either this order is tied by EK to the A380neo launch, or that the contest is very close.
