So, Bjorn thinks EK is interested in some A350-1000 in addition to an A359 order. Checking the performance of the larger variant would be the reason to postpone the decision. An interesting thought ...

An interesting thought ... They will be waiting for another 18 months - 2 years then as the first customer A350-1000 won't be delivered until March 2017

Did EK paid penalty for cancelling the A350 order? I think EK had a legal right to cancel the A350 order since Airbus deeply changed the A350-1000 specifications. Some statements from Tim Clark on this subject seemed to be worded in legalistic language : he first criticised the changes, then pointed out that Airbus introduced the changes after EK ordered the aircraft. He then went on complaining about the loss of community between the -1000 and the -900, the result being that EK had to cancel not only the -1000 but the whole order. There is no way EK would have paid anything to Airbus for the cancellation. This is the reason why I don't believe they had to order 50 additional A380s to cancel the A350 order. I believe they took them because they needed them, not for legal reasons.

Does Anyone think EK has enough info to make a decision on the A350? with as many operators and flight hours logged they should have info to help in their assessment.

I don't think EK is in a hurry to order more aircraft. They may as well keep all options open a little more. For instance, why not wait for information about the A35K and 787-10 actual performance ?
